Workshop / Rehearsal for the performance
“Dance and Resistance”, Endangered Human Movements Vol.2

In this workshop we will learn dances that were called "ritual" by the anthropologists of the last century. The Dances come from multiple sources scattered across the five continents. They where not conceived to be danced in front of a sitting audience, but were practiced in commonality articulating reciprocal relationships between human communities, animals and plants, the weather and the environment. That is the reason why we want to share them with you.

The movements of these “ritual dances” were downloaded to the body from ethnographic film archives and will be transferred to the participants.

Most of the dances were banned, persecuted or modified to serve the purposes of the colonization and evangelization. To de-exotize tradition, re-contextualize and re-signify the original content of this dances are part of this artistic endeavor. We will focus on the contemporary potential of old ritual dances today, as a form of cultural resistance. Using each movement as a “matrix of experience, in order to explore the political and environmental agency of dance, in times of advancing privatization and depletion of natural resources.

We are looking for amateurs to learn and perform some of the dances on the 18 and 19 of March.
The participants don’t need to have previous experience in dance, but they can, and we are looking forward for a group of people from different origins and ages.

We are very much looking to meet you and dance with you!

The workshop is open for 20 participants.
We are looking for a mixed group including people from different ages, backgrounds and colors

Endangered Human Movements is a long-term project focused on movement practices that have been cultivated for centuries by different peoples around the world. Within this framework a series of performances, laboratories, workshops, installations and publications are developed aiming at reframing and re-signify human movements that are in danger of disappearing in order to enable their future potential.
