The performance refers to the Middle Ages tradition of the heroic song – the chansons de geste – whose main feature is the play with originality and variation concerning content and form. Going on from this, Linda Samaraweerová and Karl Karner extend in their production this search and expand its motifs of event and repetition to a contemporary (Western) society and its perception and narrative mechanisms. In their specific artistic language, which has been shaped both by fine art and performing arts, the Vienna-based artist-duo has developed a present-day heroic song – ambivalent and subversive, uncertain about the present and critical of its own dense and simultaneously patchy narration.
A production of KASAL. With the kindly support of the cultural department of the city of vienna and bm:ukk.
