above under inbetween / stage is based on the outdoor performance bodies in urban space, which in a temporary intervention leads the audience through various urban spaces. Willi Dorner’s new work also directs the attention at our familiar architecture in an unusual way – this time with the focus on the private, on the apartment and its design elements. The title of the work is its programme: above, under, in between. The performers use the individual elements for living and the furniture in contradictory ways and constantly reassemble the bodies and their surroundings in unexpected arrangements and structures. The complex and fascinating play with objects for living opens up new perspectives and insights into our everyday movement habits and the related living and behaviour patterns, reduces them ad absurdum and develops into choreographic challenges to experience our (everyday) world afresh.
above under inbetween was premièred in its first version in the context of Linz09 as an outdoor version. 'Private' movement sequences inside the living area were treated 'publicly'. above under inbetween / stage is a continuation of the project and transfers the performance onto the stage.
A Cie. Willi Dorner production. Co-produced by Linz09 Cultural Capital of Europe and Dance Advance, an artistic initiative of the Philadelphia Center for Arts and Heritage. The Cie. Willi Dorner is supported by the Cultural Department of the City of Vienna.
