Yoga for dancers
With ujjayie breathing as a constant companion we exercise in the flow of movement. Anatomical clarity, alignment and achieving every body form are essential elements of a complete lesson sequence. The focus will be on our grounding and unfolding into space. We will pay particular attention to the pelvis and its connection to the navel. Legs and pelvis will be strengthened in order to achieve the freedom of the spine. According to Patanjali, sthira sukham asanam shows us the importance of a balance of stability, stamina and relaxation, letting go into each asana. Through the physical exercise in hatha yoga, we gain a deeper relationship to ourselves and how we exist in the world. Our whole personal relationship to the external and internal world can be recognised anew in exercise every time. Corrections take place verbally and through contact. Aids such as blocks and belts are used where necessary. A mantra will open and conclude the lesson. The chakras / energy centres and their relationship to the hormone glands and the meridian system connected to our organs come into each lesson as an additional level.

BREATH MOVE SING AND OPEN YOUR HEART

“My teaching in Vienna, New York and India spans 17 years. I discovered yoga in 1992 through dancers in the Steven Petronio Dance Company. I lived, performed, studied and taught for more than six years in New York and got to know the energising beginnings of the Jivamukti Yoga Centre under David Life and Sharon Gannon. A great inspiration for me was Alison West in Chinatown, who strove for a harmonic combination of ashtanga and Iyengar yoga. Three visits to India made it possible for me to continue my yoga studies in the line of Krishnamacharaya and its roots. In Mysore, Karnataka, I deepened my ashtanga practice with Sri K. Patthabi Jois. Some years later I taught in the Sri Santosh Puri ashram on the Ganges near Rishikesh. My studies in Vienna  included chladek technique, choreography and pedagogics at the Vienna Conservatory. Alongside my dancing work in Salzburg (Cataracts, Lawine Torrén), Vienna (Tanzhotel), France and New York (Cathy Weiss), I have also performed my own trio and solo choreographies.” (Claudia Hitzenberger [dancer, yoga teacher, mother])
