Call for TQW Training Participants

Call for TQW Training Participants

The TQW training & workshop department is happy to announce that we will resume our programme starting 14 September. The current situation calls for some major changes (compulsory contact tracing and a strongly reduced number of participants in accordance with space and social distancing regulations), and we are planning our training and workshops to that effect. However, this situation is also an opportunity for change and we want to make the most of it! To ensure a safe and smooth procedure and in order to comply with our mission as an institution for the local dance and performance scene, we have taken the decision to limit participation in the training & workshop programme by means of an application (and commitment) process.

The following changes for training at TQW will become effective for the upcoming period (Sep–Dec 2020):

  • no drop-in system
  • small, fixed groups
  • application for participation in TQW training required (until 30 August)
  • commitment: participants are asked to register for the entire week of training/a workshop/a course

For this reason, we ask professional dance and performance artists who want to take part in the TQW training & workshop programme for the period of September until December 2020 to apply until the end of August. A pool of prospective participants will thus be selected in advance, and can then register for training sessions, workshops and courses. Applications should include a short CV (or alternatively a web link) and a short statement that outlines your interest, need and motivation to take part in the TQW training & workshop programme during these three months. Applications should be no longer than one page (A4).

Please send your application to training@tqw.at.
Entry deadline: 30 August, 2020.

As stated above, your participation requires your commitment to remain in a fixed group for the entire duration of the respective training week or course or workshop. Three jurors – Liv Schellander (head of TQW Training & Workshops) together with dance artists/choreographers Charlotta Ruth and Eva Schaller – will select the prospective participants in round one (Entry deadline: 30 August, 2020).

Starting 14 September, this is what the new structure will look like:

  • Contemporary training (advanced level)
    Mon–Fri, 10.00–11.30
  • Weekly courses (Sept – Dec)
    Mon–Wed, 17.00–18.30; Sat, 10.00–11.30
  • various workshops at different times

Throughout these three months, we will continue to evaluate this new procedure in relation to the developments and regulations of the Covid-19 pandemic. Wherever necessary, we will make changes to improve our programme structure. If for some yet unknown reason it will not be possible for live sessions to take place, our training & workshop programme will be made available online. The changing rooms and showers at TQW Studios will remain closed for the foreseeable future. Participants are kindly asked to arrive for courses already dressed in their training gear. If a mat or other equipment is needed, we will ask participants to bring their own.

Our programme in autumn:

TQW’s Contemporary training will be led by Malcolm Manning (Prototechnique), Inge Gappmaier (Physicality), Andrea Nagl (Release Ballet), Matan Levkowich (Movement Intelligence), Łukasz Czapski (Contemporary Technique), Sebastian Bechinger (weekly Body-Mind-Centering® courses), Eva-Maria Kraft (weekly Contemporary Ballet courses), and Eva Schaller (weekly Countertechnique courses), among others. For one week in October (12–16 Oct), prospective participants can sign up to a training and workshop specially created by our four TQW training scholarhip artists (Alina Bertha, Jolyane Langlois, Martyna Łodej, Julia Müllner). Coming up in November: a two-week Feedback/Training led by four teachers who were selected via open call (Bianca Braunesberger. Lisa Bunderla, Imani Rameses, Tomaž Simatović), and which will take place in cooperation with the Wiener Perspektive Training & Education Working Group. This will be followed by a three-day event on “Mentoring, Knowledge Exchange and Dialogue”. Prospective participants will have the chance to attend workshops by Mathilde Monnier, Linda Samaraweerová and Amanda Piña, among others.

The entire programme will be published by the end of August via our regular TQW training newsletter as well as on our website.

All existing and valid tickets (season tickets, block tickets, etc.) will of course be partially refunded. We are currently working on processing requested refunds as soon as possible. You will find further information regarding refunds in our next newsletter.

We hope you will bear with us during these challenging times and we trust that you will understand the need for changes in our training & workshop programme. We look forward to welcoming you to our new season in September!
