Editorial April–June 2023

Dear audience, dear artists,

We are looking forward to some extraordinary months at TQW. First, we would like to introduce the participants in the second edition of PARASOL, the dance group of TQW: Lens Kühleitner, Nadine Mathis, Julia Müllner, Oneka von Schrader and Yuwol June C. are currently working under the artistic direction of Krõõt Juurak. Between stand-up comedy and tango, they dedicate themselves to learning as an artistic and performative practice. The performance SCHOOL is set to premiere in Hall G in April.

In April, we’ll also present the Austrian premiere of Florentina Holzinger’s new hit Ophelia’s Got Talent. The production, which has been invited to the 2023 Berliner Theatertreffen, will be shown in collaboration with Volkstheater. For those who don’t manage to get tickets – don’t worry! It will be shown again in October.

Our annual Rakete festival, presenting a selection of fresh positions from the local and international dance and performance scenes, will be curated by Lewon Heublein as from this year. The current edition sets out to let ‘dance itself become the driving force to start a journey into an uncharted and exciting terrain’. What’s more, Rakete will now be held on four weekends in May instead of three. A collaboration with the Wiener Festwochen also awaits in May: Mette Ingvartsen’s piece Skatepark throws light on skateboarding as an aspect of choreographing our streets and cities.

In June, we devote ourselves to special formats: by hosting one day of Screenwise 2003 | 2023. Who Cares!? and by producing the queer S_P_I_T_ festival.
