What is the relation between borders and coloniality? Which types of body does modernity/ contemporaneity promote? Which movement practices resist the colonial matrix of power? What are the hidden scores of modernity? What is a mestizo body? What is a Dance of Conquest? What has not been creolised?
In this lecture conversation, Nicole Haitzinger and Rolando Vázquez deal with decolonial thought applied to bodies and movement, and contemplate dance as a form of resistance.

Univ. Prof. Dr., works at the Department of Art History, Musicology and Dance Studies at the University of Salzburg. She completed a post-graduate course at the Department of Theatre, Film and Media Studies at the University of Vienna. The dramaturg and curator collaborates on diverse international projects and theory/practice modules, gives guest lectures and teaches internationally, e.g. in Moscow, Nice, Shanghai, Beijing, London, Berne, Belgrade, Mexico City.

is associate professor of sociology at University College Roosevelt and affiliated researcher at the Gender Studies Department and at the Research institute for Cultural Inquiry (ICON) at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Utrecht. He has co-organised the Middelburg Decolonial Summer School together with Walter Mignolo for the last nine years. He is engaged with the movement of Decolonial Aesthesis.
He curated the workshop Staging the End of the Contemporary for MaerzMusik at the Berliner Festspiele in 2017. He co-authored the report of the University of Amsterdam’s Diversity Commission in 2016. Through his work he aims to develop practices of thinking and learning that transgress the dominant frameworks of contemporaneity, heteronormativity and coloniality. His research on the question of precedence and relational temporalities seeks to overcome Western critique of modernity and contribute to the ongoing efforts to decolonise knowledge, aesthetics and subjectivity.
is a Mexican-Chilean-Austrian choreographer, dancer and cultural worker living in Vienna. Her choreographic work is concerned with the decolonization of art, focusing on the political and social power of movement, introducing non-western references and perspectives in contemporary performance.
Amanda Piña is interested in making art beyond the idea of a product and in developing new frameworks for the creation of and encounter with artistic aesthetic experiences. She dances among other in pieces by DD Dorvillier or Christine Gaigg.
