down to earth – lying around – a very gentle strike

low energy bodies, striking bodies, sleeping bodies, resting bodies, receiving bodies, lazy bodies, emotional bodies, dreaming bodies – down to earth.

During this lab, participants will address the ‘radical’ body position that lets the human spine run horizontally to the ground, imitating an animalistic posture.

The decision to simply lie around triggers positive as well as negative connotations. It is easily associated with relaxation and serenity as well as lethargy and idleness. But perhaps it might also represent a politics of resistance. What level of attention (also in the sense of ‘woke’) can a relaxed, ostensibly passive body sustain?

This interdisciplinary lab drawing on theoretical as well practical knowledge will examine the artistic potential of the more or less voluntary, ostensibly aimless and seemingly idle position of a reclining body. It will also consider states of lying down while sleeping, or being confined to bed.

down to earth – lying around – a very gentle strike (in reference to the article “A Very Careful Strike – Four Hypotheses” written by the collective Precarias a la Deriva) will focus on questions regarding states of consciousness and processes of (self-)perception which arise while being in a reclining position.

Participants: Anne Glassner, Lisa Hinterreithner, Anne Juren, Astrid Kaminski, Bojana Kunst, Linda Samaraweerová, Esther Strauß

Within the framework of the lab Bojana Kunst will hold the lecture The Labour of the Perfomance Artist.
