EXTRA LIFE

The production has been selected for this year’s Berlin Theatertreffen festival.

Following the great success of L’Étang/Der Teich (Wiener Festwochen 2022), choreographer Gisèle Vienne presents EXTRA LIFE at Tanzquartier Wien, once again featuring actor Adèle Haenel (e.g. Portrait of a Lady on Fire), this time alongside Katia Petrowick and Theo Livesey. With this new piece, Vienne continues her stirring yet relentless deconstruction of the patriarchal perception regime. Two siblings who meet again at the end of a night of celebration. A trauma that brought their close relationship in childhood to an abrupt end. A moment of realisation that might pave the way for a different life after twenty years.

Vienne fragments the moment of epiphany into its many facets: past, present, memory, imagination and premonition. The sensuous yet oppressive dramaturgy of this heterogeneous collage is underscored by the music of synthesiser composer Caterina Barbieri, sound design by Adrien Michel and the immersive laser-light stage architecture by Yves Godin.

Artist Talk following the performance on Fri 01.03., Iris Raffetseder (dramaturge at Wiener Festwochen) in conversation with Gisèle Vienne and participants in the production. In English. The talk will be translated into Austrian Sign Language.
