HAUNTED LANDSCAPES or the breathing out of earth

Claudia Bosse,

based in Vienna and Berlin, is a choreographer, artist and artistic director of the transdisciplinary constellation theatercombinat. Her works negotiate forms of violence, history and concrete utopia. Bosse thinks of her space-consuming choreographies, which weave together myths, rituals and texts with bodies, objects, sounds and, sometimes, choirs, as ‘art of a temporary community’ – including non-human beings. She develops site-specific performances, installations and interventions in and outside of Europe, as well as in museums, architectural settings, theatres, landscapes and urban spaces. Her latest pieces include BONES and STONES in the landscape, haunted landscape/s and entanglement with a haunted forest as part of the four-year project ORGAN/ismus – poetik der relationen.

HAUNTED LANDSCAPES or the breathing out of earth

Our planet is covered with violated landscapes bearing the signs of attacks such as wars, resource depletion, climatic changes and tectonic shifts. At the heart of HAUNTED LANDSCAPES or the breathing out of earth are volcanoes, mining tunnels, minefields, eroded soils in the form of endangered or contaminated landscapes as well as their myths, experiences and our relationship to them. Enormous transformations of environments and the associated global effects are unearthed in the process, as are the traces of spirits that inhabit the landscapes and impact their connectedness with the (non-)human actors around them.

So far, Claudia Bosse has developed performances, installations and interventions on fallow, wooded or ruined terrain as part of the haunted landscape/s series. With this new group piece, she connects her material of texts, bodies, sounds, movements and images with the rifts between us and our planet, and relates it to the theatre space.

Artist Talk following the performance on Fri 25.10., performance scholar, dramaturge and member of the Curatorium Theatre, Dance & Performance of the City of Vienna) Sandra Umathum in conversation with Claudia Bosse. In German.
