HAUT-DIALOG

Performance Passage. Space for Poetics of the In-between
VALIE EXPORT,

born 1940 in Linz, is a pioneer in film, video and installation art and has produced one of the most significant oeuvres of feminist art in the post-war period. Her groundbreaking films and performances in the 1960s and 1970s introduced a new form of radical, embodied feminism to Europe, examining the politics of the body in relation to its environment, culture, and society. The multidisciplinary nature of her Expanded Cinema practice and the use of her body as a medium tailored to her artistic actions position VALIE EXPORT among the most important performance artists. She has taken part in numerous international exhibitions since 1968, including documenta 6 and 12 (1977 and 2007), the Austrian Pavilion at the 1980 Venice Biennale, the 2018 Kochi Biennale and the Moscow Biennale (2007 and 2019). VALIE EXPORT’s works have been acquired by major museums for their renowned collections, including Centre Pompidou (Paris), Tate Modern (London) and MoMA (New York).

INEINANDERGERONNENE ZEIT

meine hände sind meine identität, mein gesicht, und die zeit
ist die zeit die mich macht ist die zeit für mich in der zeit
in der ich es mache ist die zeit ist mein gesicht
es geschieht in der zeit verliere ich die zeit, ich finde sie
in meinen händen wieder.

VALIE EXPORT, March 1973

Performance Passage. Space for Poetics of the In-between is a curatorial project by Andrea Maurer. The display consists of seven light boxes equipped with spy mirrors and a time control, thus functioning like a visual organ. Each year, two artists are invited to compose a score with a focus on language-experimental positions. Each installation comes with an accompanying publication that can be purchased from the vending machine on site.
