Shade Théret / Magdalena Mitterhofer

Hellcat

Shade Théret and Magdalena Mitterhofer

combine their varied backgrounds as a duo and develop a style that crosses the boundaries between visual arts, theatre, and dance. Their practice emerges from their individual training in classical ballet and fine arts, respectively. Together, they use narratives to explore desire, trauma and ideas of freedom and frequently draw on mythology and poetry to muse on personal experiences and modern life. Théret and Mitterhofer’s work has been shown at M.I/mi1glissé, Berlin, Longtang, Zurich, Futura Gallery, Prague, and Glasshouse/Volksbühne, Berlin. Together they also curate and produce lament.tv, a site-specific performance & video series in Berlin.

Hellcat

Warped and forced back inwards, rage implodes as devastation, psychosis – a silent obsession. Hellcat investigates expressions of female rage and its place within contemporary society. Confessional and episodic interview formats such as Anne Sexton’s Live or Die and Pasolini’s Comizi d’amore are applied to explore the origins of destruction, hysteria, violence, and intimate resistance.

On Friday 5 May, the performance will be followed by an artistic intervention by Anna Rimmel and a concert by Lau Lukkarila.
