Inside

Kinga Szemessy and Domokos Kovács

both studied at the former University of Theatre and Film Arts (SZFE) in Budapest. This workshop is based on experiences they had gained during the FreeSZFE movement in 2020, including the university’s occupation. Since then, Domokos has worked as a freelance performer in dance and puppetry, often with others who belonged to this movement, whereas Kinga, a contemporary dancer/dance anthropologist, is part of the FreeSZFE’s Emergency Exit programme, through which she has been pursuing her studies at the Interuniversity Doctoral Programme of Mozarteum and PLUS Salzburg.

Inside

To stand up for something. Simply standing still for a long time: acknowledging the body as the demonstration site. Being corporeal placeholders for where academic and artistic autonomy should reside. Where personal autonomy is also expected to be. How could the boundaries of the body, and how could borders serve us? How long shall we guard its territory: the newborn organisation and us, its organs?

In Hungary, new legislations are introduced daily, affecting the citizens more and more on a cellular level. In response to a fictive future case and relying on the principles of somatic activism, in this workshop, we intend to co-design performative protests by which we practice coping with the unpredictable and the absurd – let it be legal, political, or everyday.
