La peau entre les doigts

Catol Teixeira

is a trans-non-binary dancer. Born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, they have lived in Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Salzburg, Berlin and are currently living in Lausanne, Switzerland. They passed through classical dance formation, followed by training and work experience with aerial techniques in the circus. Their interest traverses notions of the body as a place of intersection of forces and dancing as a communal gesture and is consistently influenced by carnival, partying and celebration experiences. Healing aspects of dancing and liberation of power structures instigate how Catol Teixeira searches for dancing as a fictional field to reclaim subjectivities, relations, and interactions.

La peau entre les doigts

‘What can you see from where you are? Should you move, or should I? How are you going to execute that movement? Are you scared? When I look into someone’s eyes, I can tell that it’s possible for us to meet.’

Catol Teixeira’s building blocks are bodies, space, and time – elements that the dancer imparts with the dynamic energy born of improvisation and contact. The audience also plays an active role in this performance: the viewers’ presence, gaze, and movements are all a part of the puzzle. Catol Teixeira dances at the crossroads between poetry and queer thought, decoloniality and feminism, where theory and practice intersect. A place that allows for probing, intimate examination. A place where skin can appear with all its minute flaws, with its spots and folds and wrinkles, hairs, and veins.
