Klein / Bela Demirkalp & Winona Hudec

LO AND BEHOLD

Klein

is a contemporary British artist and composer whose work often blurs the lines between fact and fiction. Her music releases, films and performances are often informed by urban mapping, surveillance, humour, hip-hop, noise, identity and beyond.

Bela Demirkalp

is a composer and artist working at the intersections of music, visual arts, film and performance. His practice is settled in rethinking the boundaries of different media and finding coherency within and outside of them. Upcoming projects include a noise project under the moniker Sick and a fashion documentary for which he also composed the soundtrack.

Winona Hudec,

(they/he), is a multidisciplinary artist bringing into play ideas from professions such as designer/visual artist, curator, and sound maker. His work is characterised by a playful curiosity, which allows it to stumble across the boundaries of genres and media.

LO AND BEHOLD

The series LO AND BEHOLD assembles experimental sounds as well as performative and visual art practices, seeking sensory listening experiences in the theatre space. The fourth edition presents artists Klein and Bela Demirkalp & Winona Hudec.

Klein will present her latest album marked. The South London experimental musician shifts from her usual leftfield electronics and avant-garde R&B to an album of blistering guitar noise.

The evening will kick off with Hiccup, the first collaboration between Bela Demirkalp and Winona Hudec. The project documents dissociative protocols of a present-day urban story in an experimental film and soundtrack. Blunted experiences of everyday routines are sampled using experimental techniques borrowed from film scoring, contemporary composition, and Leftfield takes on classical band formations. Premiering at Tanzquartier Wien, the score is performed live alongside a screening of film fragments. The moving image, sound and live music find themselves in a fraught relationship of interference and disruption, at times branching off as their own autonomous narratives yet repeatedly converging throughout the performance.
