Movements Across Class

Towards an Aesthetic of Work

Who do we dance for? Who do we dance with? How does artistic dance exclude? How do contemporary dance, popular dance and commercial dance intersect? How can we dance across class divides? When is dance professional, and when is it work? What is the relationship between dance and labour? How does dance stand within larger issues of global economic inequalities? How can we relook at the relationship between dance, work, and sexuality?

With the aim of challenging class divides within dance practice, Sandra Chatterjee will work over the course of her research affiliation to bring together a panel around these questions in a concluding discussion. The panel setting will experiment with visual impulses and fragments compiled throughout the affiliation. The audience will be invited to join an (optional) welcome warm-up to start the discussion in movement.

Participants: Melmun Bajarchuu (critical companion, dramaturge, curator, creative producer), Monica Delgadillo Aguilar (dancer, dance facilitator, choreographer, artistic director of Tanz die Toleranz) and Marissa Lobo (artist, free curator, mentorship and curator of kültüř gemma!)
