Self-Sabotage

Improvisation Lab
Krõõt Juurak,

born in 1981 in Tallinn, is an artist, performer, and lately, a stand-up comedian who studied dance and choreography at ArteZ Arnhem and Fine Arts at the Sandberg Institute, Amsterdam. Their work addresses both human and non-human audiences and is self-sabotaging by nature. Recent exhibitions and performances include the Baltic Triennial 14: The Endless Frontier, Vilnius (2021), You’re So Busy at Shedhalle, Zürich (2021, 2022), Thinking Like an Octopus at Wilhelm-Hack-Museum, Ludwigshafen (2021), Art for Animals: A Perspective Change Opelvillen Stiftung, Rüsselsheim (2020, 2021), Cohabitation Silent Green, Berlin (2021). Juurak lives and works in Vienna.

Lily Wittenburg,

born 1984, works in various fields: as a poet, cook and pastry chef, artist, paintress, editor and performer. She looks at materials and the interplay of their immaterial properties. Her admission procedures of spatial, material and psychological connections go beyond what is visible. She also explores the fluctuation of dust, the stability of light, and the volume of radiation. Wittenburg’s ink drawings, reverse glass paintings, publications and light installations were shown at Kunstverein Freiburg (2022), KM Gallery Berlin (2022), Institut für Moderne Kunst Nuremberg (2020) and Bundeskunsthalle Bonn (2018). From 2002 to 2008, she studied art at HfBK in Hamburg.

Self-Sabotage

Improvisation Lab
„In this Lab, we will explore various manifestations of self-sabotage, assuming that we cannot sabotage a system without sabotaging ourselves first. The initial purpose of this Lab was not political but rather a wish to find ways to capitalise (read: enjoy) on the work we, cultural workers, are already doing all the time anyway. Self-sabotage is probably a skill that unites the largest number of artists and cultural producers worldwide. For some stigmatising reason, we are not receiving enough credit or appreciation for it. In this Lab, we will look for ways to ruin a good thing for no reason; we will be driven by guilt, desire, or desperation; we will invent the most complicated ways to avoid work; we will avoid work; and at the end of the day we will of course work.“ – Krõõt Juurak and Lily Wittenburg
