Transmission and sharing of knowledge in dance and performance

After more than 15 years, this research lab will follow in the footsteps of Education Acts, a 2006 Tanzquartier Wien event series, and welcome international and Vienna-based practitioners and pedagogues to question and reflect on methods and approaches concerning the exchange and transmission of knowledge in the field of dance/performance. Some of the questions will be: What are the needs of dancers, choreographers and performers in contemporary education and training contexts? Can we identify and foster some of the methods and approaches needed in education and training for the 21st century? How should theory-based dance/performance education and training look like? Are there ways to rethink and restructure the relationship between teacher and student in contemporary education and training practices? What does a life-long process of learning look like for dancers and choreographers who face an increasingly precarious professional life? And how can we approach these questions without reproducing some kind of Eurocentric education practice?

At the end of an intensive week of research, the Education Lab participants open their process to the public and invite discussion.

With: Samuel Feldhandler (Choreographer, dancer), Anne Juren (Choreographer, dancer), Myrto Katsiki (dance scholar and dancer, associate researcher in the Master’s programme Exerce at ICI-CCN Montpellier), Claudia Lomoschitz (choreographer, performer, art educator), Shabari Rao (Performer, docent, researcher), Linda Samaraweerová (choreographer, head of TQW body & performance practices)
