Performance Passage. Space for Poetics of the In-between
Alma Söderberg

is a choreographer and performer who works with music and dance. She uses her voice and body to play space as if it were an instrument. Her ongoing research deals with how we listen as we look and the relationship between the ear and the eye. She has grounded her practice in a number of solo performances in which she developed an idiorhythmic way of creating. In the two ongoing music projects, wowawiwa and John the Houseband, she has worked in collaboration with the other artists Anja Müller, Dennis Deter, Hendrik Willekens, Roger Sala Reyner and Melkorka Sigridur Magnusdottir. In all her works, she collaborates closely with sound artist Hendrik Willekens. Alma Söderberg has won the Thalia Prize and has been granted the Cullberg scholarship.

Performance Passage. Space for Poetics of the In-between
The sixth intervention on the lightbox keyboard of Performance Passage opens with a visual score by Swedish choreographer Alma Söderberg. Söderberg’s choreographic compositions deal primarily with the relationships between eyes and ears, body and sound, movement and language. Her poetic patterns of time are characterised by interweaving polyrhythmic listening, thinking and doing.

Performance Passage. Space for Poetics of the In-between is a curatorial project by Andrea Maurer. Each year, two visual compositions are presented on the display she developed. Artists from various fields are invited to participate, with a focus on language-experimental positions. The spatial design of Performance Passage was devised by Christoph Meier. An accompanying publication to go with the respective installation can be purchased from the on-site self-service machine.

For the opening of WOURNLD, Alma Söderberg will accompany the visual poem with a live intervention.

Her performance New Old will be shown at 18.30 in TQW Studios.
