POSTPONED Peer-forming encounters

An afternoon of sharing
Backpulver, Think and Practice Tank for Contemporary Dance,
emerged as an independent initiative in 2019 with the primary goal of enhancing the quality of dance training and fostering a platform for peer-to-peer exchange among local professionals. Guided by Alberto Cissello, Martina De Dominicis, and Sara De Santis, and supported by artist-peers Charlotta Ruth and Franziska Zauner, Backpulver actively explores how feedback mechanisms can enrich shared artistic knowledge within the local contemporary dance community. Through regular practice-sharing sessions and Intensive days, Backpulver is dedicated to nurturing and documenting the artistic evolution of the local independent scene.

POSTPONED Peer-forming encounters

An afternoon of sharing

Please note: The event has been postponed to 25.01.2025.

For an afternoon of sharings, the Tanzquartier Body and Performance Practice programme in collaboration with Backpulver warmly invite you all to the TQW Studios for a gathering in which we will delve into the themes of practice and training, the agency of terminology, processes of learning and more. This gathering afternoon is not a workshop but a structured and facilitated platform for artistic dialogue.

Participants can join this experience at various points, attending encounters and conversations in pairs or groups, reading sessions, preparing communal food and, for who feels like, sharing insights into their own practice. We also welcome people who want to simply listen and witness. We want to enable discussions about personal experiences, beliefs, knowledge, and ideas. By doing so, we hope to inspire each other, gain a deeper understanding of our own practices, and explore and map the multitude of approaches and perspectives that make dance and performance in Vienna what they are today—and what they could be in the future.

Some of the initial questions: How do we define the notion of artistic practice today? What do you train on a daily basis? What do you practice on a daily basis? What do you exercise on a daily basis? What is the role of a community in learning?
What is the role of the others/peer-to-peer in our professional growth?
How do we create spaces for a continuous collegial and artistic exchange? How do we identify differences between artistic practice and training?

Programme:
11.00–15.30: Board in the kitchen + station for video or audio recording (TQW Foyer)
11.00–12.15: Session 1 Groups in Conversation
12.30–13.30: Session 2 Sharing Exercise/Practice
13.30–14.30: Lunch for all (cooking together)
14.30–15.30: Reading groups
15.30–16.00: Reception and wrap-up phase (with sekt)
