Ballet Techniques

In these ballet technique classes, we focus on foundational themes from the teaching philosophy of Janet Panetta, such as musicality, functional alignment, and direction in space. Anatomic instruction is paired with nuanced individual coaching. We will warm up our bodies through exercises at the ballet barre, then move to the centre and progress our physical expressions across the floor and with jumping. In technique class, we dance with intention. We enter a learning process where we pay attention to information we get from our bodies and use that to become more specific about how we move. We become intimate with the principles of the exercises and have the chance to practice that knowledge as an integrated experiment with the ballet vocabulary. Over several sessions, we are able to find the most confident, efficient, and enjoyable approach that can serve our movement quality in a variety of forms and performative situations. My aim is for the class to welcome anyone interested with some experience with ballet.
