Jussara Belchior refers to herself as a “fat ballerina”. In her piece Peso Bruto – that she would have presented at the Wiener Festwochen in June 2020 – she deliberately showcases her own corpulent physique to the audience. Using a scene in her play, she opens up a discussion about physiques that do not conform to the ‘norm’, their beauty, seductive power and, nonetheless, systematic absence from public contexts. Her workshop that will now take place online in small, intimate groups is a reflection which, ultimately, is also expressed in the movements of each individual participant.
