Poetics of intimate encounters

Contemporary Training / Physical Laboratory
Pawel Dudus,

born 1989 in Poland, studied contemporary dance at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz. Since 2015 he’s been dedicated to #ONLYLOVEISREAL – a friendship-based collaboration with Laura Eva Meuris, an ongoing long-term research project dedicated to the subjects of love, intimacy and (self-)care. Pawel feels the importance to react against violence and hate linked to fear and the predominance of normative concepts.

He investigates how intimacy and shared vulnerability can help us restore the way we relate to each other and build alternative networks and relationships. Pawel has been giving workshops at STRETCH and xplore Festivals, Berlin. Recently, he has performed in Alexander Gottfarb’s 365-days-performance Negotiations at Tanzquartier Wien.

Poetics of intimate encounters

Contemporary Training / Physical Laboratory

This training will take the form of a physical laboratory. We will investigate the multifaceted subjects of intimacy, sensuality, care and pleasure. The focus of this class lies on the connection between somatic work and artistic creation which forms the basis of Pawel’s choreographic and performative practice.

We will work with scores which enable individual and collective confrontation with different approaches to intimacy. These sessions offer practices to train “soft skills” – practices based on the awakening of the senses, expanding the ability to listen, developing a stronger sense of empathy and enhancing sensual capabilities among others. These exercises provide psychosomatic experiences, which we’ll use as a motivation to generate movement – creating a space to be, to observe and to collectively reflect upon our questions.
