floating {ribs} academy

The floating {ribs} academy*, which starts at the end of 2023 and will continue regularly within the framework of Body and Performance Practices in 2024, represents a series of seminars, workshops, exchanges, and somatic lessons, all intricately woven around the notion of the body. This innovative artistic approach, guided by Anne Juren, embodies a continuous exploration of diverse experiences and practices.

Drawing inspiration from Feldenkrais’ imaginative use of language and the power of touch, each session unfolds as an embodied seminar. Juren generously shares her body-oriented practices, seamlessly bridging the therapeutic and choreographic realms with the somatic and poetic. Moreover, the floating {ribs} academy is thoughtfully designed as a series of research sessions that venture into various fields of knowledge such as anatomy, psychoanalysis, feminist and queer theories, poetry, and somatic practices.

Through this multidisciplinary approach, the floating {ribs} academy cultivates an enriching space for both personal and artistic growth. Beyond being a mere collection of practices, methods, and locations, the floating {ribs} academy serves as a conduit for Juren’s ongoing artistic research within the vibrant independent Viennese scene. It also stands as a platform for Juren to share her invaluable insights and discoveries with the wider choreographic community.

* Just as floating ribs provide vital protection to organs, they also serve as a pivot for enabling fluid movements, reflecting the dynamic nature of the floating {ribs} academy.
