Floorwork: Flow like Water

Contemporary Training

During the classes we will learn technical movements and sequences in standing and on the floor. This enables us to widen our range of possibilities by pushing our limits. During the improvisation we use all our possibilities in order to find our individual interests and strengths. In a playful way, we learn to shift our attention and create new places to visit while dancing. When learning movements, we will focus on doing them in a smooth and effortless way without unnecessary tension while focusing on the transitions. Leading from various parts of the body allows us to find a greater awareness and articulation. By creating momentum and using the strength of the centre, we learn to perform movements that would otherwise require high physical effort in an efficient way.

In the classes we will focus on

  • generating energy from the centre of the body
  • finding the connection between body parts
  • finding a natural reaction to impulses
  • finding a balance between effort and release
  • transitioning smoothly between movements and levels (standing, jumping, floor) to enhance flow
  • playing with other people
