Contemporary Training
Anna Possarnig

studied contemporary dance both at Studio an der Wien and at Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität in Linz, graduating with a bachelor degree in contemporary dance and dance pedagogy. Since 2010 she has been working as a freelance dancer and dance teacher based in Vienna. She performed pieces of choreographers such as Liz King, Regina van Berkel, Eldad Ben Sasson, Gisela Heredia, and Sophia Hörmann. In 2017 she presented her first solo work Protagonist and she collaborated with Maria Shurkhal and the composer and musician Amir Ahmadi for the piece Bauhaus tanzt.

The collaboration led to the foundation of PUC (Pop-Up Collective) which focuses on education and art outreach programmes besides its artistic productions. In 2016 Possarnig became a licensed Gyrokinesis® method instructor and has been teaching professional dancers as well as people of diverse ages and physical backgrounds ever since.

Gyrokinesis® for Dancers

Contemporary Training

The Gyrokinesis method combines principles of yoga, dance and somatics. The holistic approach connects body and mind and opens the meridians of the body so that the energy can travel from a strong and subtle centre. Through continuous round and spiraled movement, initiated by breath and centre, Gyrokinesis stimulates the nervous system, places the joints and creates support in the whole range of motion and improves flexibility. The rhythmic use of breath and the idea of a constant flow creates musicality, a sense of dancing and stamina. Dance professionals as well as athletes all over the world use this method to refine their coordination. In the course of the week we will transfer the body awareness and the principles developed through Gyrokinesis into movement improvisation and dance phrases.
