Housekeeping for performers

Daphna Horenczyk

is a Vienna-based dance and performance artist. Since 2012 Daphna has been choreographing independently for stage and film. Her choreographic language is mainly based on contemporary pop culture and the use of irony and self-humour as critical tools for social phenomena. In the last few years, her artistic work and teaching mainly dealt with the gap between representation and experience. In addition, she has worked with choreographers such as Anna Konjetzky, Ceren Oran, Amanda Piña, and Ariel Cohen. Daphna is the recipient of Startstipendium from the Austrian Federal Chancellery (2019), and since June 2020, she is also a mother.

Housekeeping for performers

I am interested to inquire about the term ‘training’. What should training consist of? What are we training for? What does individual training entail? And what does collective training entail? In these sessions, I would like to take the participants through a durational guided experience. We will bounce between physical and intellectual exercises, between being the first body experiencing and being the observer. I am interested in reaching a deep state of consciousness from which we will move without losing the level of performativity and communication with others. Each session will train a different aspect relevant to being a human performer. Terms such as uncertainty, failure, and void, among others.
