Humming Microbes

Alina Bertha

has a background in break dance and studied contemporary dance performance and education at the University of Roehampton in London and at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz. In her final year she did an Erasmus+ exchange at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. In the past years she has been working as a performer, choreographer and dance teacher. She currently lives in Vienna and is creating a solo performance in which she examines the therapeutic potential of a creative process, inviting the audience to a deep experience of presencing and reflecting.

Jolyane Langlois

is a dance artist based in Vienna. Originally from Montréal, she started her dance education at the Université du Québéc à Montréal and graduated from the professional training programme at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre in 2012. For the last eight years, she has been working independently for a number of well established companies and choreographers from all over the world. Jolyane received the 2020 TQW Training Scholarship and the TenderSteps Residency from Raw Matters. Through movement, she is interested in expanding what she believes as possible, chasing ways of transcending the senses and exploring new paradigms of togetherness and responsiveness. She values wonder, care and fosters community. She uses her dance practice as a catalyst for transformation.

Martyna Łodej

is a dancer and dance teacher. She studied at the Dance Theatre Department in Bytom and at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz. During her studies in Poland she was a scholarship holder of the Kibbutzim College of Education in Tel Aviv and worked together with members of the Codarts Rotterdam University of the Arts. In 2019 she was performing Forward to the Past (choreography by LajaMartin Physical Dance Theatre Company) at the Šibenik Dance Festival in Croatia. She lives in Vienna where she is teaching contemporary dance with a focus on floorwork technique. In 2019 she received the TQW Training Scholarship.

Julia Müllner

is a dancer and lives in Vienna. In 2019 she completed her studies in Dance and Choreography at the Danish National School of Performing Arts in Copenhagen. She received the 2019 TQW Training Scholarship and the 2020 danceWEB scholarship. Julia works in collaborative settings as well as on solo projects. In her work she explores methods of documentation and looks for different ways to make them accessible for herself and others.

Humming Microbes

In this workshop we will look at our body as a collective, tap into the wisdom of our creative centre and dance to swinging beats with our cells / roommates. Every session will open with a circle holding foot activation, kundalini inspired exercises and time to focus on our breath. By connecting to our senses and our surrounding, we will practice the art of noticing until we bring our attention down to the dust particles. We will transform our breath into a healing hum and explore our resonant selves. Humming as an act of secrecy that encourages us to drift away but also captivates us. We will take our healing hum to public spaces in the hope of positively affecting the collective vibratory levels. Other choreographic practices we dedicate ourselves to propose guided meditative expeditions, drawing bacteria and dance recipe writing.

We close the workshop every day with a fermentation ritual, which consists of making our very own ginger beer. At the end of the week, the bug is ready to bubble in your homes.

Alina Bertha, Jolyane Langlois, Martyna Łodej and Julia Müllner hold a TQW Training Scholarship 2020.
