Kritzeln is an act of protest

Fanni Futterknecht

works adopt a position that spans media, ranging between video, performance and installation. In her works she reflects on sociological and social questions, converting them into poetic interpretations. In spatial and plastic realizations and translations, and by means of language, the artist works on the construction and deconstruction of scenarios in the form of performance, demonstrations, videos and installations. Performance-installations are understood as processual sculptures, transformed creatively during their staging. Part of this investigation is a concern with processes of media translation and a questioning of the media employed in each context: the translation of the performance into a video. The video as an exhibition. The installation as a performance.

Kritzeln is an act of protest

The workshop Kritzeln is an act of protest will suggest that scribbling is a different form of writing and can be read as a collective gesture of resistance. Together, we will translate statements, impulses and expressions into sign language; scribbling as an impulsive, physical and performative act that involves the body as well as the surrounding space. We will work with ideas and motifs usually linked to protest movements and demonstrations, exploring scribbling as an act of social communication and establishing the workshop as a collective gesture.

Which images are created when bodies start to resist and negotiate without words? When scribblings replace the verbal dimension, we will enter a space of the unspoken – a space solely held together by noise, movements and traces.
