Leavening Agents
On 8 November, a lecture performance with Stefanie Wenner and Anne Juren will take place inside the Fantasmical Anatomy Lesson space as a “frame in the frame” proposing another form of acknowledgment and discourse on the body and it its corporality.
Something becomes something only through something. That’s how one might summarise the history of symbiotic development. It always takes agents to combine so as to generate something new. Stefanie Wenner brings a fermentation starter to Vienna and, adding fungi and yeasts, makes sourdough with Anne Juren in order to bake toads together with the audience. Toads are a symbol of the female gender and thus a leavening agent of reproduction in the iconology of folk belief. We tell stories about desiring the toad, follow the process of symbiotic union of the ferment and eat sandwiches together.

did her Ph.D. in philosophy and worked subsequently as a dramaturg and a curator. Since 2014 she is running apparatus together with Thorsten Eibeler, since 2015 she is professor for Applied Theatre Sciences and Production Dramaturgy at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts.
born in Grenoble, is a choreographer, dancer and performer. She lives and works in Vienna. In 2003, she founded the Wiener Tanz- und Kunstbewegung association together with visual artist Roland Raagas. Juren’s choreographic pieces and artistic works are shown in theatres and museums, at festivals and biennal exhibitions worldwide. Juren seeks to expand the concept of choreography in her work. She explores the physis, the sensory system, kinaesthesia and sensuality by challenging the boundaries between the private and the public. Anne Juren has been a Feldenkrais® Practitioner since 2013. She is currently a member of the Artistic Committee of the Master in Choreography programme at DOCH (Stockholm) and is writing her thesis at the Stockholm University of the Arts under the supervision of André Lepecki and Sandra Noeth.
