Open Body

Workshop
Adriana Cubides

studied languages and literature at the University of Bogotá, Colombia, and dance at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz. She has worked a. o. with choreographers such as Helene Weinzierl, Rebecca Murgi, Charlotte Vincent, Elio Gervasi, Philip Van Huffel, Catherine Guerin, Charlotta Overhölm, Chris Haring, Willi Dorner, Stefan Dreher, Amanda Piña, Paul Wenninger, Elisabeth Tambwe, Saskia Hölbling and Christine Gaigg.  After participating in the most varied artistic exchange and research programmes with the emphasis on improvisation, she began working on her own improvisational works: SHE HAD NOTHING TO SAY, hit lost and found, One some body thing and 1975 (selection).

As part of this process, she dealt with the term “honesty” in relation to the body and to the audience. She worked on surrendering herself to the “unknown”, having nothing to fall back on apart from herself and the particular moment, and in search of a deeper understanding of honesty she also explored failure, insecurity and judgement. Currently she is cooperating with artists from various fields, questioning performance formats and deepening her understanding of the body through different artistic practices and experiments, repeatedly finding new opportunities to create a connection between herself and the audience.

Open Body

Workshop

I see the body as a container of ‘who we are’, or who we have become through time and experience. Patterns, beliefs, emotions etc. are imprinted in the body and are visible through how we relate to the world, how we engage and use our bodies. However, is the body not also carrier of new connections, potentials and possibilities far beyond our imagination?

In this class – which will be divided in a morning class with a continuation in the afternoon that allows us to dive deeper – we will explore this question and find ways of breaking molds, roles and automatisms in our way of moving and relating to movement. Much of the work will include becoming aware of belief and movement patterns as well as finding possibilities for the body to become accessible through the way it shares and articulates its content in the present moment and always in connection with its surroundings.

Working on patterns really requires diving deeply into oneself which means that it is really recommended staying the whole day, and of course if possible the whole week. At the end of the week we will have the opportunity to have an open door class to share our process (to be discussed together).
