Schizophrenic Bodies

Elke Van Campenhout (Elle)

is a self-proclaimed monk, artistic researcher, Tantra teacher, performer and dramaturg. She started out as a critic of contemporary dance in the 1990s, worked as a dramaturg for several artists and institutions, and started up the international post-master programme a.pass (advanced performance and scenography studies) in 2007. For five years now, she has been running The Monastery Live, an alternative, experimental and fluid community that uses artistic, spiritual and other means to rethink our sense of community, economy and libidinal connections.

Schizophrenic Bodies

Schizophrenic Bodies are bodies that are no longer contained by the limits of their skin. Bodies that move through other bodies, through space, and even through walls. A body that contains another body, an object, or a part of the world, that expands through breathing and directs its energy into another space and intensity.

In this workshop we practice sharing our bodies and ‘teleporting’ them through space, making use of Tantric and other energetic and visualization methods. We practice the idea that ‘we are not our body’, or better, that we are more than the limited, material substrate that makes up our physical body. How can we include others and non-human actors in our proprioceptive movements? We make use of breathing and movement techniques, working in group, and in couples.
