Yvonne Meier

has been exploring the art of improvisation in performance and teaching Releasing, Authentic Movement and her own improvisation technique: Scores, during the past 45 years, in the US and throughout Europe. She has been on the faculty of Movement Research, American Dance Festival and Hollands University for decades. In Europe she has been teaching such companies like Anna Teresa de Keersmaeker ‘s Rosas and Meg Stuart”s Damaged Goods. For her artistic work Y.M has received 3 Bessie awards, American Master piece award, 3 NYFA awards, 5 NEA and Interarts grants as well as a Guggenheim Fellowship and a multiple Helvetia awards.

Score technique

In this workshop we will, in preparation for Score technique, practice Authentic Movement and Releasing.

Authentic Movement is a selfdirected form which students discover a movement pathway that offers a bridge between the conscious and the unconscious. Authentic Movement explores the relationship between a mover and a witness, being seen and seeing. Movement from an inner impulse, with eyes close lead us into movement journeys that can kinesthetic, spiritual, sensual often including sound. In Authentic Movement we learn to bypass the conscious and connect us with the unconscious which preparing us for the deep reaction of Scores.

In the Score system we utilize the empty body as we will learn to fill it with images get communicated in words and phrases. An arrey of these word images are ranging from simple one word activity like crumbling or shattering to more complex tasks. Since we use the word as source for the improve there are infinite possibilities. Often Scores capture human situations and predicaments.
