Veza Fernández

is a dance, voice and performance artist based in Vienna. Her work deals with the realms of the poetics and politics of expression as a place of relation, imagination and transformation. She entangles singing, writing, dancing and speaking practices as bodily forms of study, experimentation and performance. Her pieces are sensitive and intense, casting polyphonically a convocation of voices and presences that yearn to move and to be moved. Her background stretches between philology, pedagogy, theatre, music and contemporary dance. Fields that in a way or the other influence her artistic researches and modus operandi within art making and art presenting. Her work is strongly rooted locally, infiltrating from within the underground scene bigger dance and theatre institutions. She holds a Master’s degree in Choreography from the DAS Graduate school (Amsterdam Academy for Theatre and Dance). Her work has been shown, amongst others, at brut Wien, Tanzquartier Wien, Sophiensaele Berlin, Gesnerallee Zürich, de Singel Antwerp, La Casa Encendida Madrid.

In this open practice, I share a series of bodily vocal visualisation techniques to develop a sense of material listening and transverberal moving. Transverberal means an intense reverberation that takes over your body. A resonant experience that allows you to craft yourself another body by letting something vibrate so deeply inside of you. Through detailed journeys into deep anatomical perception, we will pour our voices into different organs, bones and visceral fantasies until the voice becomes voluminous malleable streams of information that carry resonant qualities of the structures and textures it encounters. We will learn to sound to fathom texture and expand sonic amplitudes of perception in relation to the resonant surfaces inside and outside our body. We will learn to listen and produce sound as spaces that take over our body or we can inhabit with our body.
